Car events are always best shared with friends. We felt right at home even though this was our first visit to the annual Silverstone classic. You are surrounded by like-minded people all wanting to enjoy the same sights and sounds all sharing the same anticipation the event timetable teased you with.
Everywhere you cared to look were automotive works of art and enthusiasm. You just kind of soak it up and then the circuit opens and you get a sound track that entices you away from the static displays and frankly, you’re torn. Track side or paddock?
50 years of the Ford Mustang, 50 years of a massive following. At Silverstone the gathering was vast. One for every taste and flavour of Fords muscle car and standard of all of cars was staggering. Add in a brace of P51s and it was clear how loved the Mustang is.
What’s your favorite era and class of motorsport? For me along with the WRC in the late 90’s to early 2000s the BTCC was the racing I longed for on the weekends. Seeing the Jet Super Touring Car Trophy on the listings for the 2014 Sivlerstone Classic met genuine excitement!
Along with the late 90’s and early 2000s machines were classics such as BMW M3s and Siera RS500s from the 80s just adding to the iconic nature the touring car class has always nurtured.
Not wanting to be upstaged, the V6 Capris were simply loud!
Evo Magazine’s Richard Meaden and BTCC’s Gordon Sheddon had a great battle up front wrangling Lotus Cortinas in the John Whitmore Trophy for under 2 Litre Touring Cars. Beatuful Alfa Romeo Guilia Sprint GTAs and BMW Ti’s, were swarmed by Morris Minis that just made us all want a one so badly! Setting themselves up long before the corner apex, they made a sideways line through every bend. Captivating stuff, ‘I’m not sure they’re even braking’...
Ever feel like seeing some cars is like spotting a celebrity? I have, and seeing a 70’s Nissan Skyline was 'A' list! I think the internet has made recognisable cars that previously would be so rare to see in the metal, but finally you do and it’s special.

When do modern classics just become classics? If i hadn't already made the slowest progress getting through the club stands, seeing there was a Japanese car contingent to the club areas that just slowed me even further. Hearded in the middle, a collection of NSXs were surrounded by MK1 MR2s and Datsun 240Zs. It was like spotting a rare animal, shh don't let them run away until I've got up close! Appologies to Oli. I stopped for a while....
BMW Ti loosing badly at 'hide and seek' in the Heritage Paddock.
They organised the perfect time for the Group C Endurance class; the sun was setting around the circuit and the headlight beams started dancing ahead of the cars. It was worth the wait unitl the end of the race schedule.
Thank you Silverstone, you've made me head to the classifieds again. Hope to see you next year.
